Thermal imaging cameras do not see through the walls nor allow others to do so. All a thermal imaging camera does is show temperature changes in different colors. Thus while looking at wet or damp surfaces vs. dry surfaces the color difference makes the problem areas more obvious. Most of the time using a thermal imaging camera can allow a skilled operator to locate the problem areas without undertaking expensive and messy destructive testing (ripping out the walls or ceiling).
